Movie Review – Everest

Hi All!

This past weekend I treated my aunt (who always treats me, so I was due to return the favour! Love ya Ter) to the movies. We decided to see Everest. Now before I get into the movie and my thoughts I should mention that I am a sucker for ‘out-doorsey’ survivor type films. I enjoyed the film ‘Open Water’, ‘The Reef’, ‘Life of Pi’ etc… So if you are not a fan of any of the above then ‘Everest’ probably isn’t your flick.

The movie starts off with a married couple that is expecting; the husband is going off with the hopes of climbing Everest successfully. We learn early on that this film is based on a true story as we see a memorial of  names engraved on a wall at the bottom or what they refer to as the first base of Everest. The viewers are shown various statistics of how many people actually make it to the top and how each incline affects the body and especially the lungs.

As the film goes on the climbers make it to second base and then third base as their back stories come out. Each climber is there for a different reason, one thing they all had in common was each of them felt they had something to prove; either to themselves or to someone else. The higher they ventured up the mountain the more the characters struggled, some not being able to make it- having to turn back and ultimately putting their dream on hold. One mans vision completely faded, another man’s breathing was out of control; even though they all desperately wanted to make it to the top, the mountain had a way of preventing that for many people, the mountain had the last say. I don’t want to completely spoil the movie for you so I won’t say which characters die or how they die. I will say that knowing it was a true story made it hard to watch at times and made me never want to attempt climbing Mount Everest.

I came to love one of the men who was on his third attempt to climb Mount Everest. He was carrying a flag that an elementary school class had made him. The kids were motivating him to make it to the top- if he made it, he felt like he was teaching them you could do anything you set your mind to no matter how big or how small. There were a few characters who I wasn’t fond of until the end of the movie when their arrogance faded into kindness when lives were on the line.

Basically if you enjoy survivor type films and are into true stories, I suggest you check it out! And maybe bring a sweater too. I watched it on a warmer night but man watching people get stuck in snow and basically freeze for hours has a way of tricking you into thinking you are cold as well!

DIY Lush inspired Mint Chocolate Massage Bar

Hi ladies and gents! If you are a fellow Lush lover then you will probably enjoy this blog post! I live in a small town in Ontario and do not have access to a Lush without a 2 hour drive and sometimes I just don’t feel like paying for shipping! So I was inspired to attempt to make my own natural massage bar. The great thing about this DIY project is that you can alter the ingredients of your choosing to make your very own personal bar.

The ingredients I used:

  • 2 table spoons of sweet almond oil
  • 2 table spoons of cocoa butter
  • 1 table spoon naturally infused coconut oil
  • 6-8 drops of essential peppermint oil
  • one brick of wax, approx 2 tablespoons melted
  • Flower shaped silicone mold
  • Glass dish
  • Sprinkles

You will start by getting a heat safe glass dish to put your bees wax into. Then you will need to melt down your bees wax using a double boiler. Do not use the microwave as it kills and breaks down all the nutrients that the products have to offer. Once the bees wax is melted down add your choice of butter; some people prefer to use whipped Shea butter and cocoa butter but I was out so I used just the cocoa butter. If your cocoa butter is hard like mine is then place your jar into a pan of hot water for about ten minutes until the butter starts to soften.

Stir constantly and add in the coconut oil and sweet almond oil. Remove from heat and add in your choice of essential oils. Ensure that the essential oils are added last because it doesn’t take long for them to evaporate. If you would like to add an optional decor to your bar then you can go ahead and put in whatever you like into012 the bottom of your mold. I chose to put sprinkles in mine but you could do shredded coconut flakes, organic cocoa nibs, dried flower bits etc. Allow your creativity to shine in this fun project!

Pour your liquefied mixture into your mold and let set for about an hour on the counter. After an hour the mold should be starting to harden, place in the fridge and leave there for a couple more hours. Pop your massage bar out of the mold and let it set over night. In the morning you should have a beautiful 100% natural and organic Lush inspired massage bar! PS most oils have vitamin E mixed into them in order to preserve the freshness of the oil but for some reason if yours do not then you need to add a couple drops of vitamin E so your bar doesn’t spoil.

For those wanting their massage bar to help with sore muscles add a generous amount of peppermint essential oil. This oil will add a tingly and cooling affect to your skin.

If you are wanting more of a relaxing night time bar then add a couple drops of peppermint essential oil mixed with 5-8 drops of lavender oil.

Lastly if you are wanting more of a sensual massage bar, you can add vanilla and a tiny bit of cinnamon oils to your bar. It will smell heavenly and help create the mood you are looking for.

Let me know in the comments section if you’ve enjoyed this blog post! Happy Hump day!

Hi friends, I thought it might be fun to jump on the TMI Tag bandwagon. I’ve loved reading some of your answers and figured this could be a neat way for you guys to get to know me a little bit better.

1: What are you wearing?

I am currently wearing black athletic shorts, a navy shirt and an old Price Choppers sweater. For those not familiar with Price Choppers, it was a discount grocery store here in Canada that has been converted into a Freshco. I worked at Price Choppers when I was 14 for a few years 🙂

2: Ever been in love?

I’ve been very much in love for nearly five years now 🙂 I met my husband whilst studying Sociology at University in my second year and we have been attached by the hip ever since. He’s my best friend and I feel incredibly blessed to have him as my husband.

3: Ever had a terrible breakup?

My husband is who I refer to as my first true boyfriend, so no, I do not feel I have had any terrible breakups. Now if we refer to friendship breakups then yes I definitely have had a terrible experience.

4: How tall are you?

I’m 5ft 3 and a half, and yes the half an inch does count 😉

5: How much do you weigh?

I stopped weighing myself 3 years ago and do not intend to start again. I could stand to lose some weight but right now i’m fine with how I look.

6: Any tattoos?

Yes, I have two tattoo’s. One on my neck and one on my left wrist.

7: Any piercings?

I have had many piercings in my day. I have had my ear lobes pierced three times (two of the holes on each lobe are still able to have earrings inserted). I have had my belly button pierced, which I loved but took out for personal reasons. I have my tregus on my left side pierced and have had my helux (sp?) on my right side pierced but it was the most painful and nasty thing to heal so I eventually took it out. I also had my nose pierced but took it out on my wedding day and decided I didn’t want to put it back in 🙂

8: OTP?

Had to Google this in order to figure out what to write haha! I suppose ‘OTP’ means ‘one true pairing’ and if that is the case and I’m not just an idiot making stuff up then I would pick Ross and Rachel from Friends. They’re each others lobsters, need I say more?

9: Favorite show?

Friends. This show will always be my favorite show, I find the writers to be absolutely brilliant.

10: Favorite bands?

My taste in music strongly depends on what mood I am feeling that day. Some days I can listen to Rise Against all day long, then the next day I might just want Vitamin String Quartet. But bands that I enjoy listening to frequently would be Mumford and Sons, Holly Henry, Adele, Florence and the Machine etc.

11: Something you miss?

I miss my university days, I felt a sort of independence and newness that I haven’t felt since. It was an amazing bunch of years and it makes me sad that it went by so fast. I wish that I would have enjoyed my time more and really let all new experiences in. I wish that I would have fought less with my friends and roommates and studied harder. I wish that I wouldn’t have been so concerned as to what people thought of me and just went for it. I am eternally grateful that I was able to meet my husband in University and have those memories intertwined with memories of the rawness and total bliss of starting to date him.

12: Favorite song?

I don’t think I could ever be able to pick a favorite song. Marry me by Train will always stay close to my heart as it was mine and Benny’s first dance song played at our wedding.

13: How old are you?

I’m 24, and will be 25 in January.

14: Zodiac sign?

I’m a Capricorn.

15: Quality you look for in a partner?

Loyalty and trust. I’m sure everyone says that but my parents had such a bitter divorce and an unhappy marriage because they lacked those qualities in each other. I could go on and on saying he has to be funny, charming, cute, smart etc. But in all honesty I need to trust my partner 100% and I want a man that is loyal to me. A man that even when hes angry with me still comes home at night, doesn’t seek out revenge or doubt his choices in choosing to spend a life with me.

16: Favorite Quote?

It is always darkest before the brightest bright. To me this just means things will always go in a continuous circle. There will always be pain and hardship. But we need to go through the rough times in order to fully appreciate the good we have been blessed with.

17: Favorite actor?

Not sure that I have a favourite actor to be honest.

18: Favorite color?

Blue, it’s always been blue and will likely stay blue. I think it’s the colour that shows the most emotion. Both happiness and sorrow can be found in blue to me.

19: Loud music or soft?

Depends on my mood.

20: Where do you go when you’re sad?

Usually online to write, or i take a really long hot shower.

21: How long does it take you to shower?

If I have to wash and condition my hair and shave my legs then I can be in the shower upwards of 30-40 minutes. I usually will choose to have a bath if I need to shave though, which means I can stay soaking for more than an hour, especially if I have a lush bath. Which is pure bliss if I do say so myself.

22: How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?

I’m pretty low maintenance to be honest, I usually throw my hair into a pony, put my glasses or contacts in depending on what I am doing that day and get dressed and do my teeth. Maybe 10-20 minutes.

23: Ever been in a physical fight?

Once- with my sister. She stole my remote, I had black out rage. I’m pretty sure I was pmsing and going through crazy teenage hormones haha

24: Turn on?

Make me laugh and keep a bit of mystery.

25: Turn off?

26: The reason I started Blogging?

My husband works as a nurse in the operating room and is often staying late or being called in to help with various surgeries, so I was left alone a lot of the time. I wanted an outlet to feel busy and to feel like I was doing something that I found interesting.

27: Fears?

I have OCD so a lot of my anxieties are intertwined with compulsions. I am afraid of diseases and those I love getting sick and dying. I have had these fears since my parents divorced when I was 12.

28: Last thing that made you cry?

Not sure to be honest, I think when I was going through my ‘girl time’ last month. I always get way too emotional at that time lol

29: Last time you said you loved someone?

Not even an hour ago when my husband left for work.

30: Meaning behind your Blog Name?

Because I am a nurses wife, I wanted something that would represent not only myself but my greatest friend Benny 🙂

31: Last book you read?

One of my sisters books, and I can’t actually think of the name of it at the moment! How terrible!

32: The book you’re currently reading?

I haven’t started one yet but I am about to start a Jodi Picoult book, I just have to decide which one I would like to start first.

33: Last show you watched?

Friends, it’s an obsession people, I’ve tried to get help for it I promise.

34: Last person you talked to?

Ben 🙂

35: The relationship between you and the person you last texted?

Ben just texted me to remind me to take out the recycle bins before it was too late.

36: Favorite food?

Food is a wonderful thing in the world of Jessica! I like almost everything, except for pizza, I seem to be the weirdo who doesn’t care for it.

37: Place you want to visit?

Australia, New Zealand and Ireland.

38: Last place you were?

Took a nice trip up to Grand Bend Ontario 🙂

39: Do you have a crush?

My husband and maybe Channing Tatum 😉

40: Last time you kissed someone?

I kissed Benjamin before he left for work.

41: Last time you were insulted?

Not sure.

42: Favorite flavor of sweet?

Mint Chocolate I think mmmm so yummy.

43: What instruments do you play??

I cannot play anything which sucks so badly because my husband and his family can play nearly anything. My husband plays violin, guitar, mandolin, banjo, and some piano! Like hello talented!

44: Favorite piece of jewelry?

My wedding rings.

45: Last sport you played?

Does the WII fit count as a sport ? 😛

46: Last song you sang?

You and me, I think about you day and night, something something me and you and you and me so happy together. What ever that song is I was singing lol

47: Favorite chat up line?

My husband told me he had a dream that I had kissed him before we started dating. So I asked him if he liked it and he said yes, so I kissed him 🙂 that was our first kiss.

48: Have you ever used it?

my husband used it!

49: Last time you hung out with anyone?

The weekend!

50: Who should answer these questions next?

Anyone who reads this far into it!

Peppermint Essential Oil Review

Hi All! I hope everyone is enjoying their final week of summer! I cannot believe how quickly this summer has flown by! My husband and I had a quiet get away with friends to celebrate the last weekend of the summer. It rained half the weekend but nonetheless we had a wonderful time.

The point of today’s blog post though is Peppermint Essential Oil. If you’ve never heard of it, then I strongly encourage you to keep reading. Every single person should have a bottle of peppermint essential oil in their medicine cabinet. It is by far the most diverse and known essential oil – alongside lavender oil. So what is this so called peppermint essential oil; it is made up from the leaves of the peppermint plant or Mentha pipertita, which is a hybrid of the spearmint plant and the water mint plant. The oil contains menthol an organic compound that contains anesthetic properties in it to create the cool or tingly feeling when applied to the skin topically. For anyone like myself that suffers from sore muscles, especially around the neck and shoulders, peppermint essential oil is a God sent. I’m going to briefly jot down some other benefits that this oil has below.

  • Soothes indigestion- One of the oldest natural remedies to date is the use of peppermint to aid with digestion. Massage a few drops of peppermint oil onto your abdomen to help with nausea. Many people say they feel relief minutes after application.
  • Helps as a cold relief- If you are stuck battling off a head cold or have sinus issues, rub a few drops of peppermint oil onto your chest and neck to feel instant relief. It will help with congestion and breathing.
  • Headaches- If you suffer from chronic migraines or just have a bad headache put a couple drops onto each temple for relief. Many studies have concluded that peppermint essential oil is the only product that works all the time to fight off or to prevent a headache.
  • Natural Energy boost- If you hate the taste of energy drinks…or the fact that you are drinking awful chemicals in order to stay awake or feel more alert than look no further. Take a few sniffs of the peppermint oil from the bottle to feel more awake and refreshed.
  • Add peppermint Oil to your beauty products- If you like DIY beauty products, add a couple drops of peppermint oil to give the products a minty burst of freshness. You can add it to your lip chap recipe, skin scrub or to your shampoo for a tingly freshness in the morning.

There are so many ways to add peppermint oil to your daily life that I encourage you to go out and purchase a bottle. I’m willing to place a bet that once you start using this essential oil in your every day life you won’t be able to live without it! I purchased mine at but there are many stores online to buy from if you search.

Marc Anthony Oil of Morocco Shampoo & Conditioner Review

Hi All!

I’ve wanted to write a review on the Marc Anthony Oil of Morocco Shampoo and Conditioner set for awhile now but just haven’t sat down to do it! (procrastination at it’s finest). There are many benefits to this product, however I have a few cons as well. Many have called this set a beauty secret because it is made with argon oil. Here’s what the Marc Anthony website has to say:

  • “We often look to beauty secrets of the past as inspiration for now. One of the greatest ancestral beauty secrets comes from Morocco – Argan Oil. It is really a ‘super oil’ because it has so many benefits – strengthening, moisturizing, shine, damage relief, and the list goes on. When you buy Argan Oil for your hair you’re getting one of the best natural resources for healthy looking hair.” – Marc Anthony Stylist Team

So what is the deal with this argon oil you say? Well it is basically a deep moisturizer that enhances your hair to have a shine and sleek appearance. The set has an added boost of strengthening Keratin and grape seed oil which helps keep your hair strong, which is especially beneficial for anyone who has brittle, frizzy or colored damaged hair.

The aesthetics of this product are good in my opinion; the shampoo and conditioner set comes in large blue containers with a pumping nozzle to expel the product. The packaging that mine came in was a thin plastic covering the bottles with a thin piece of cardboard to hold the bottles into place. So not the most environmentally friendly product to date but I’ve also seen worse. The hair treatment serum that comes with the set is a decent travel sized (50 mL/1.69 fluid oz) bottle. I find it adorable and love to keep it set out on my bathroom vanity. The treatment is also my favorite aspect of purchasing the set. It is comprised of vitamin E and Shea butter which keeps the hair so incredibly soft. Depending on the length of your hair you will need between 1 and 5 drops. My hair takes the full five drops because of the length and thickness; after massaging the treatment into my hair, I run my hair brush through it and ALL of the tangles and knots are gone. The fact that it acts as a de-tangler to me is huge because nothing has ever worked for me the way this product does.

The shampoo is a good size at 1 L/33.8 fluid oz. I use a very generous amount of product and can have the shampoo last me almost 3 months. My hair feels clean and grease free after shampooing. The only issue I have with it is the nozzle. The nozzle might be great for those with thin hair who do not want a lot of product in their hair but for people like me with thicker hair than a horses’ tail, I find myself standing in the shower pumping and pumping away. This may seem very minuscule to some but for me it gets tedious and sometimes I choose to go with a different shampoo if I am in a rush to get moving.

The conditioner is 400 mL/13.5 fluid oz which is an okay amount. I do wish the bottle was just a little larger because I find myself running out of conditioner before I use up my shampoo. I’m not 100% hooked on this conditioner though, I find the smell to be iffy, it definitely doesn’t smell good, but it also doesn’t smell badly either. I do find that if I use too much of this product or let it set in my hair for too long, my hair will become greasy faster than some of my other conditioners.

So would I buy these products again?! The treatment serum is an absolute YES. It is my favorite thing about the set and honestly quite the miracle worker. I would probably buy the set again just to have another tiny bottle of serum if I couldn’t find a larger bottle on it’s own. As for buying just the shampoo and conditioner, I probably wouldn’t run to the store to repurchase as soon as I run out. If I am gifted them as a set I wouldn’t fuss over it but they are not my favorite products to date.

If you have read my intro post then you are already aware of my obsession for the show F.R.I.E.N.D.S. I’m not sure if it is embarrassing or impressive that I have probably watched every single episode at least 3 times. Which says something as there are ten seasons with approximately 22 episodes per season. There are certain episodes that I watch when I am feeling a particular way. For example, I am TERRIFIED of flying; which is a problem because I LOVE to travel and the two of those tend to go hand in hand. Whenever I am about to board a plane, the night before I always watch the last episode of season 10 “The Last One” Part 1 & 2″ where Rachel boards the plane to leave to Paris and Ross is fighting the clock to tell her that he loves her and wants her to stay. If you are familiar with the episode you know that Phoebe drives like a bat out of hell to get Ross to the airport to stop Rachel from getting on the plane; however they unfortunately arrive at the wrong airport. So Phoebe being herself tries to problem solve and calls Rachel, to tell her that she has a ‘feeling’ something is wrong with the left phalange on the plan and that she thinks she should get off.  A fellow passenger on the plane overhears the conversation between the two woman and it causes quite the uproar. I wont ruin the episode if you have not see it so I will not mention whether or not Rachel gets off the plane but its a suspenseful episode. For some reason this episode makes me feel so good and takes away the fear I have to fly. Maybe I should talk to a therapist to understand why as it doesn’t make much sense 😛 but my point is there is a F.R.I.E.N.D.S episode for everything, which is why it is such an iconic show. The show has been off the air for over ten years now and is still my favorite sitcom to date.

Now please enjoy a quick video of Phoebe wishing you only good happiness and luck for the rest of your evening and Monday morning!

Pantene Dry Shampoo – Product Review!

Hello everbody! Hope everyone is having a funday Sunday! My hubby works today so I am making the best of my day by doing a little yoga, enjoying a lovely farmers market apple and writing this blog post. I feel very passionate about this post today because it has to do with hair, my hair specifically. My hair is naturally very blonde and very very thick. My pony looks like a horses’ tail no joke. Because my hair is so thick it tangles very easily, so after brushing it out, straitening it or curling it, I don’t like to wash it for at least 3 days. Yes you read that correctly. My hair is so much work that I just don’t have the time it requires to make it beautiful everyday; but because my hair is thick and long I’ve been blessed with the fact that it doesn’t get oily until about day 3. My mom bought a tiny sample bottle of Pantene Pro-V Dry Shampoo and put it in my stocking this past Christmas and it has been absolutely wonderful! On day 3 if I am feeling lazy or if my hair is just starting to get oily I spray the top of my head and massage it into my hair down to the ends. Instantly the greasy hair look is gone! and it smells AMAZING. I cant stress that enough, the smell is like ocean rain water mixed with flowers mixed with their shampoo smell.

If you are like me and have thick, long hair that you don’t want to become enslaved to every morning then I strongly recommend going out and trying it. You will not be disappointed!

Stay happy xoxoxoxoxxo

Natural Skin Care Product

TGIF! Holy Moses, it’s finally Friday folks! I hope everyone has had a wonderful week and are looking forward to their weekend 🙂 Now i’m sure everyone is getting a little tired of reading about coconut oil… lets be real, the coconut oil obsession has gone viral, we are all infected and coconut oil is pumping through our blood 😉 okay but seriously this blog post is about coconut oil, sorry not sorry!

The fall weather is emerging and we are all going to have to give summer a big kiss goodbye sooner then some would like. Myself being a team autumn by the way… Like you don’t love cozy sweaters, scarves, leather knee high boots and not to mention the pumpkin spice craze all around us. Anyways I digress, my point is the colder the weather gets, the dryer my skin gets. I am not someone who is interested in spending hundreds of dollars on top brand skin cream that has various chemicals masked as a natural ointment. I am all about that natural life and by golly coconut oil is the holy grail! Go to your natural Whole Foods, Costco, Bulk Barn or local grocery store and purchase a bottle of organic, virgin cold pressed coconut oil; a bottle should cost somewhere around $7-$11 dollars a jar. Take about a tea spoon and make sure not to contaminate your jar – so clean hands and a clean spoon every time you dip! If you live in a cold climate most of the year like me then your oil will be hard, rub the coconut oil in your hands until it has turned to liquid, then rub onto your face and massage into your skin. Go to sleep and wake up in the morning with the smoothest skin ever! Smoother than a baby’s bottom, I swear!

I also use coconut oil for hair masks, make up remover and one of the ingredients I use to make my natural deodorant. If you would be interested in knowing the recipe I use for my deodorant let me know!
